Dress code is the unwritten but understood by most members of the society rules of clothing (which may vary in different societies although Western style is commonly accepted as valid) as an aspect of human physical appearance. Clothing like other aspects of human physical appearance has social significance.

The dress code has built in rules or signals indicating the message being given by a person's clothing and how it is worn. This message may include indications of the person's gender, income, occupation and social class, political, ethnic and religious affiliation, attitude and attitude towards comfort, fashion, traditions, gender expression, marital status, sexual availability and sexual orientation, etc. Clothes convey other social messages including the stating or claiming personal or cultural identity, the establishing, maintaining, or defying social group norms, and appreciating comfort and functionality.

For example, wearing expensive clothes can communicate wealth, the image of wealth, or cheaper access to quality clothing. All factors apply inversely to the wearing of inexpensive clothing and similar goods. The observer sees the resultant, expensive clothes, but may incorrectly perceive the extent to which these factors apply to the person observed. (cf. conspicuous consumption). Clothing can convey a social message, even if none is intended.

If the receiver's code of interpretation differs from the sender's code of communication, misinterpretation follows. In every culture, current fashion governs the manner of consciously constructing, assembling, and wearing clothing to convey a social message. The rate of change of fashion varies, and so modifies the style in wearing clothes and its accessories within months or days, especially in small social groups or in communications media-influenced modern societies. More extensive changes, requiring more time, money, and effort to effect, may span generations. When fashion changes, the messages communicated by clothing change.

What is the dress code for playing golf during the summer on a golf course?
Q. My husband and I are getting interested in golf and we would like to know what the dress code is for golf courses during the summer. Thanks in advance.

A. It depends upon the golf course you play. Some local public courses have no dress code (just decent). Most expensive courses or country clubs require long slacks and pull over shirts with collars, usually no jeans, halters, or short shorts. You do need regular golf shoes, the usual golf equipment, and some kind of cap or hat. It's a fun game. Learn and have fun. You'll meet many nice and polite people.

A. Students could protest by not abiding by the dress code. Sign a petition against a dress code. Sue the school for infringement of the students right to freely express themselves (look up Tinker v. Des Moines). Students could go to a school board meeting to present why they think a dress code is a bad idea.

A. if a school has a dress code or a Uniform, it instills a sort of discipline and it tells the kids that okey when you wear that dress, means you are in school and you have to behave in a certain way. having a Uniform also eliminates any kind of discrimination between rich and poor kids. if a rich kids wears great clothes everyday, that might give an inferiority complex to the kids whose parents cant afford those type of clothes or accessories... wearing a Uniform, make sure tha all kids look same and no feeling of superiority or bias comes in anybody's mind whatsoever... i guess you have 2 points now..
