Is a full length dress too much for a formal 8th grade dance?
Q. To end the school year our school is having a formal dance for the 8th graders. A lot of the girls are going to wear really short dresses but I hate my legs and I want to wear a full length dress. Am I going to be too formal?
Asked by Ali - Tue May 5 00:21:42 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Yea it sounds a bit too formal. Full length should be reserved for Grad. Think about what you would wear to wedding reception and you're NOT in the wedding party - that's as maximum formal as it should be. Would you wear full length to a friend's wedding reception? If you don't want to show your legs, try a dress that goes just below your knees. That's not super short. If you really absolutely have to wear full length, then the style cannot be formal at all. Like a non-shiny material like chiffon, plus it's gotta be straight down, not puffy/princess or it'll be way formal. No silk or satin if its full length - save it for grad.

Why does one see so many Marines in full dress uniform wearing pictures of Obama on their shoulders?

A. Well, I see that (ERUDITE) is back. Many military members have photos of themselves with whatever person was CIC at the time. I have one with Tricky Dick looking over my shoulders. Nobody wears a picture of any CIC on their uniforms. "What is that? A pledge pin on your uniform?" - Cadet Captain Niedermeyer, Animal House. Nice to see you (ERUDITE). Too bad you don't have a picture of yourself in uniform. I guess you would have had to be in the military for that. What happened to your K-9 Handler ID...and your Linebacker II service. lol edit: The nice thing about his name and profile changes is that he still shows up blocked. LMAO

I have driven a full dress motorcycle for 29,000 miles , yet a still have to slow for corners at 65 mph,?
Q. as other motorcycles go around with ease at 75 mph, what am i doing wrong? I tried counter steering, different handle bars.
Asked by tawasperson - Wed Oct 3 15:36:31 2007 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments
A. You don't "turn" a motorcycle at those speeds, you just lean. Look - Lean - Roll - from the motorcycle safety foundation class. Look where you want the bike to go, lean in the direction of the turn (if turning left, lean left), roll on the throttle. Another trick is to push down on the handle bar in the direction of the turn. (if turning left, push down on the left hand grip while leaning)

why do some muslims wear a full burka dress, others a habib?
Q. and then there are others who do not wear any thing that indicates that they are of the islamic religion. I am thinking that the burka etc is more about the sexual psychology of men than about womans modest dress.

A. try asking in the Ramadan section. i asked a friend once who wears the hijab. the burka makes it harder for her to work and so on. some countries make require the women to wear a burka. it's a personal choice, some women may feel that they are being "more modest" by wearing the burqa. those who do not wear the hijab, only wear it to attend the mosque and it may be a personal decision on their part not to wear it.

A. I'm assuming you mean a touring bike. I think all of the advice was good with the exception of taping your throttle wide open. But I can add one more thing. All touring bikes do not handle corners the same way. I noticed one fellow mentioned his goldwing. Honda goldwing and BMW's K1200LT handle corners about as well as sport bikes, and are well behaved at high speeds. Other touring bike do not necessarily behave that way. I have a Kawasaki Voyager VII. It does not handle like a sport bike. It runs very well and is capable of more speed than the suspension system can really handle. It tends to wallow like a pig if you corner too hard. I guess it's the 1975 design of its suspension system. Which is soft and comfortable on the… [cont.]

A. The 'busa has pretty much been the same bike since it's inception, though that's getting ready to change in '08 or '09. There have, of course, been minor changes. But the basic bike remains the same. So - if you can find a good deal on an older model with acceptable mileage. Actually, the '99s are known to be a bit faster ;) I'm sure you've ridden one before - but if you haven't... it's not going to be anything like what you're used to. Hold on!!!

Are ballet flats okay to wear with a formal full length dress or are they not dressy enough?
Q. I really want to wear flats so would ballet flats be okay or should I go with some sort of strappy sandal type flat? We're in Hawaii so weather isn't really an issue =) I want to wear flats, my dress will look too short if I wear heels and my husband is the same height as me - I don't want to be taller than him. So please don't tell me to wear heels.

Whether they can do as big an alteration as tea length (at the knee) to floor length, i doubt it UNLESS you alter the style of the front of the dress to be able to somehow hide the join between the two sections. That might be as "simple" as making a poof at the knees, and then having the new section flow down from behind the poof... although i think its way more difficult than 'simple' in reality. You might also look into getting a lace overlay or embroidery/embellishment done to the dress skirt front to camouflage the join. Another idea might be to deliberately do a non-matching section.
