Business casual?
Q. I got a new job whose wardrobe is "business casual." What does this mean to everyone else? What should I wear to work so I don't look under/overdressed?
Asked by J.H. - Tue May 13 00:31:10 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Buy a nice pair of black / grey / tan slacks depending on your body shape. Then layer tops with a jacket. Buy a nice pair of simple black flats and heels. Then check everyone out for about a week or two... first check BAM ... shopping spree.

What's the difference between business casual and business appropriate without suits?
Q. My sister just got a job where they said business casual for the interview but then said "dress appropriately for business but you don't have to wear a suit. She's confused as to what she should be wearing. Any tips?

A. Sigh, that's because they should just say "We wear suits/ties" or "Suits/ties are not needed". I wish businesses would stop dropping their standards by calling it "casual". Your sister should dress business formal for her first week. This is standard until you figure out what the hell business casual means to THAT particular company. All new employees should dress just a bit nicer than everyone else until they settle in a little.

How does a teenager dress business casual?
Q. I'm 17, tomorrow I have my first job interview at Kohl's and they told me to dress business casual. I have no button up shirts or slacks, I don't know what business casual is but I can assure you I don't own anything business casual... What do I wear then? What would be appropriate to wear at a job interview if I don't own button up shirts, slacks, dresses, or suits, and can't buy any of these things?

A. Just buy one of those black jackets that you can pair up with anything. Kinda like a suit top. Everytime I wear mine at work they tell me how professional I look and ask if I am going on an interview. So I think that will help you look business casual.

A. geeez soo was I! I have been in the professional Field for a little over a year. usually I just wear nice slacks and a nice shirt. Maybe something you would even wear to church. Skirts, but nothing higher than your knee. and shirts that are at least 2 or 3 inches thick (remember high school...) So something conservative that you would wear around grandma. Oh and also take note of what other people are wearing and make that a standard.

What should women wear to a business casual or casual restaurant?
Q. I want to go to Top of the World or Wolfgang Puck restaurant in Vegas. The dress code says business casual for Top of the World and casual for Wolfgang Puck. Can you explain what kind of outfit that would be. Would a cocktail dress be inappropriate? I'm really interested in wearing a dress.
Asked by ReKa - Mon Jul 28 21:09:25 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Business casual would include slacks/a skirt, a nice blouse, and sensible shoes. I think a cocktail dress would be overdressing a bit, but a nice "regular" dress would be great. Casual would be something you'd wear to a nice get-together. Nice blue jeans, a cute top, and some nice shoes. Nothing too fancy, but not dressed-down either.

When dressing in "business casual" attire, do you absolutely HAVE to wear pantyhose with a skirt?
Q. I'm about to go out of town for a weekend seminar, and the event calls for business casual dress. I only have skirts to pack, but no pantyhose. Is it acceptable to not wear pantyhose if the skirts are a few inches below knee length, your legs are shaved and they have no blemishes or anything?
Asked by i_come_from_under_the_hill - Thu Mar 19 23:56:53 2009 - - 21 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I guess whether pantyhose are a must or not depends on the environment of the seminar. It wouldn't hurt to have a pair just in case as you're better safe than sorry. Since your skirts are long enough, you can opt for thigh hi's and nobody is every the wiser. What I suggest is to wear them the first day and if it is a casual environment, then you can go without.

What is your take on wearing suspenders at work? Business casual, with suits?
Q. I like the look of wearing suspenders instead of a belt in business enviroments. I mean suspenders not overalls or anything. I like the retro look of it but am worried about trying it out myself. Would I look like I appreciate the style or look like a fool that stepped out of a time machine. What is the appropriate setting? I work in business casual and do not have to wear a suit everyday. Thanks for any answers.

A. suspenders (called braces in England) are a fine gentleman's accessory and work well in a business environment with a suit and tie or even in a more casual environment with a dress shirt and dockers. Check out the selection below

What is the most comfortable men's business casual shoe to wear on a hard floor all day?
Q. I have to walk and stand on a hard floor all day in a business casual environment, stone floors etc. And I cannot wear athletic walking shoes to the office, but I need something that will keep my knees and back from getting so fatigued during the day. A. When dressing business casual, a man should wear a jacket, a dress shirt, comfortable shoes and nice slacks. Dress business casual by keeping cuff buttons undone and not wearing a necktie using the help of this free video from a clothing designer.

What to wear and shop from for Women's business Casual?
Q. I have always worked in places which required me to wear casual clothes like jeans. But now on my next job I need to wear Business Casual Clothes. My idea of business casual is pants and shirts/sweaters... I have limited knowledge what else to buy or wear. How many pairs of clothes should one have in their wardrobe for work? Dry cleaning gets to be expensive. Where to buy these from without spending a fortune? Also I am looking for flat comfortable pair of shoes - comfort is the most important factor. Any particular store I can find these? I don;t mind spending money on these. I am going to have to do the shopping within the next few days. Any suggestions welcome.
