Q. dress code for my job is casual wear but they really didnt go into detail but she said you can wear jeans on friday so casual wear means no jeans? i will be working at the dmv i will ask when i meet my supervisor. i just want so opinions

A. Business casual means that you can pretty much wear anything that is not too provocative, but no jeans and t-shirts, and all clothes should be in good condition (no stains, holes, rips, etc.) When they refer to casual, rather than business-attire it just means that you are not required to wear a suit every day. Invest in some dress-pants and some blouses...this will carry you through until you get a feel for what other people are wearing, and what you can get away with.

A. A. Here is the thing. When interviewing for a job you should always wear a suit. When working in a job you should dress one level above what is recomended. So if the job is business casual than you should wear a suit without the jacket.

Should I wear business casual clothing to work?
Q. I work in a laboratory (environmental testing industry) where the dress code is casual. I work within the IT department. The only people I see who wear business casual/professional dress on a constant basis is the director of the lab and the IT manager. The project managers and supervisors wear business casual when a client comes in or when they feel like dressing up. Mostly they wear jeans to work. Our corporate office and corporate staff is located in another state so corporate people only come in and they announce when they come in. How important is it for me to wear business casual? A. I was the Office Manager/HR Manager in an environmental lab. I would bet that everyone there but you, the accountant, and perhaps one or two others, is a scientist of some sort. They all walk to a different drummer and they don't care what anyone looks like. Follow the code and wear business casual.
