When should I start looking for my wedding dress?
Q. I'm getting married May 2, 2009. When would be a good time to start looking, shopping, and buying my wedding dress? The wedding date is a little over 7 months away. Should I start now?

A. Absolutely you should start now, if you want to have the best selection of gowns available to you to order. I'm a bridal consultant, and have waited up to 8 months for a special ordered dress to arrive in my store in the past. You have to remember, if you want a particular dress in a particular color and particular size, and the designer doesn't have one already in production, they will have to make it for you. You will also need to allow time for alterations, at the very least, most gowns need to be hemmed. If there's trim on the hem, the dress is hemmed by detaching the skirt from the bodice, taking the fabric up at the waistline, and then re-attaching the skirt. What kind of necklace would match my wedding dress?
Q. I have an ivory / creme coloured wedding dress, it is not a real wedding dress and it's kind of casual. Those lovely diamond necklaces that you see would clash with this dress. I'm not sure what kind of necklace would match the color and style of my dress, any suggestions?

Is there a home remedy for cleaning a yellowed wedding dress made of tafeta and chiffon overlay?
Q. My dress is tafeta with lace and chiffon overlay. I had had it professionally cleaned 30 some years ago and wanted to use it as decoration in my house before my daughter's wedding this June. When I opened the box, the dress was yellowed as was part of the hat. Can I do something to remove the yellow without taking it to the dry cleaner?

A. * Sorry No; it's safer to have it professionally cleaned. The process is too hard to perform at home & dry cleaning is involved. * Oxygen in the air has oxidized optical brightener on garment, giving a yellow appearance. * Suggest having the dress vacuum sealed and boxed after your daughter's wedding.
